Horses Trailer Types – Quick Guide (Ⅱ)

There are different ways of linking through horse trailers, which can be divided into bumper pull horse trailers and gooseneck horse trailers. According to the loading method of the horse, it can be divided into straight load trailers and slant load trailers.

Straight Load Trailers

Straight load horse trailers can provide more balance space for horses during travel and can transport larger horses if the height is sufficient.

Straight Load Trailers

Material

Advantage:

  • Lower costs. Straight load horse trailers cost less than slant load trailers.
  • Easy to load and unload horses. Straight load horse trailers have no requirements on the order of horses, which is very effective in response to emergencies. You can immediately get this horse out of the trailer and take it to the veterinary hospital, without the need to get off the other horses.
  • The horse has plenty of space. This will not only calm the horse’s claustrophobia but also freely bow its head.

Disadvantages:

  • It can only accommodate two horses. If you want to accommodate more horses, you need more space, but an oversized body will put pressure on the tractor.
  • Need additional customization. Sometimes a side ramp is needed to assist the loading and unloading of the horse.

Slant Load Trailers

Due to the special loading method of the slant load horse trailer, its length will be smaller than that of the straight load trailer (when the number of horses is the same). The extra space can be used as a storage room, cloakroom, etc.

Gooseneck Slant Load

Advantage:

  • Make full use of space. When the horse is loaded slant, the remaining space can be used as a storage room or cloakroom.
  • The horse can turn its head to make it easier to draw out.
  • The partition is removable. It is easier to customize according to your needs.

Disadvantages:

  • Need to be loaded and unloaded in order. The first horse to be pulled into the trailer can only be pulled down last. When an emergency occurs, you must get off all the horses, find the problem horse, and then put the other horses on the trailer, wasting time.
  • The horse’s space is small. Usually horses like wide spaces. Narrow, dark spaces may make them suffer from claustrophobia.
